black mountain canyonIf you're searching for adventure, look no further than our Black Mountain Bike Tour! This off road adventure explores the trails of San Diego's Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve. The Preserve is home to 4,000+ acres of southern California scenic landscape, including riparian stream corridors, a seasonal waterfall, flat top mesas, freshwater marshes, a live oak forest, and several sycamore groves.

Inhabiting the Canyon are over 500 plant species, 175 bird species, and a rich bio-diversity of mammals, amphibians, and reptiles.  Our tour begins near Black Mountain Road at the east staging entrance. As you head west along the creekside, you'll snake along the trail as it changes from path to fire road to single track and again, with water crossings along several log bridges.

We'll ride down the canyon through varying terrain and habitats that were home to the prehistoric La Jolla culture and late Northern Digueno Native Americans for over 6,000 years. Watch your tires, as artifacts continue to unveil themselves along the sandstone bluffs and creek banks! A short break by the waterfall (running seasonally) will give you a chance to dust off, take in the scenery, and hydrate before continuing our off road loop.

penasquitos canyonWe'll zigzag through the hills before returning to the historic Santa Maria de Los Peñasquitos Adobe, more commonly known as the "Ranch House," an early 19th century adobe home built on the first Mexican land grant in California.

The full loop is 8-10 miles along dirt trails. Participants should wear protective clothing against the elements.  All of our San Diego bike tours include 21 speed hard tail, front suspension mountain bikes as well as helmets, bottled water, and of course, one of our delightful tour guides!
