Downtown La Jolla is similar to the "Park Place" in the game Monopoly. This extraordinary street is home to the crème de la crème of restaurants, shopping, finance, and more. It's like a beach-side Rodeo Drive, but with more culture and diversity.
The "Jewel" La Jolla!
This famous street is part of what makes La Jolla, "the jewel" that it is. It's probably one of the cleanest streets around, but yet, you can't find a public trashcan to save your life. Most of La Jolla is held in the same regard. You can fill your morning or afternoon with a simple walk filled with window-shopping.
Downtown La Jolla is home to the historic La Valencia Hotel. This elegant hotel is located on top of La Jolla Cove, as it overlooks the cool, calm breeze of the Pacific Ocean. The La Valencia, open since 1926, offers a fresh Southern California feel, with luxury hotel rooms, suites and ocean villas. Located along Prospect Street, this world-class hotel sums up the local area in a clamshell.
Just steps away from the hotel one can find shopping that suits any fancy. Prospect street is lined with the museums, galleries, and shopping, everything from jewelry, to custom furnishing, and flowers. This unique little street is also home to some amazing restaurants.
The most popular restaurant on the street is George's at the Cove. This three story upscale contemporary restaurant has a level for every occasion. The "newly renovated" California Modern Room, is located on the bottom floor, and truly takes on a whole new meaning to the term fine dining. The Pacific View Bar is pretty self-explanatory; however, the view and atmosphere must be witnessed first hand, but it still comes in second to their Ocean Terrace level.
If there is only one activity that you have time for while visiting La Jolla, we recommend that you just enjoy the sunset, closely followed by one of our bike or kayak tours of course. That's what we love about George's Terrace. This amazing view is difficult to beat, and the cuisine is unrivaled when matched with the ambiance, and surroundings. We definitely recommend a trip to George's in La Jolla, as their casual setting allows you to enjoy your table without need for a sport coat.
Filled with restaurants, bars and other delicatessens, Prospect Street has value that's worth seeing, and is filled with fun things to do. Visit our San Diego Restaurants page for tips.
