To get to Coronado from downtown San Diego, you drive over the magnificent Coronado Bridge, with its graceful curved shape and notorious blue color. When arriving over the Coronado Bridge, turn left onto Orange Ave. to get into the heart of Coronado. Orange Avenue is bustling with unique shops, delightful cafes and of course, the world famous Hotel Del Coronado. The Hotel Del Coronado sits at 1500 Orange Ave. and is easily spotted with its infamous red tile roofing and classic Victorian architechture. The Hotel Del Coronado was built in 1886 and is a historical landmark today. The Hotel Del, as it is often called by locals, was built with the intention to be a major luxury resort and attracted the likes of Hollywood celebrities including Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe, as well as every sitting President since Lyndon Johnson.

Coronado is also home to Naval Station North Island and the Naval Amphibious Base, which are located along the Silver Strand. The Silver Strand is a great place for biking to take in the surf and the sun, as Coronado’s beautiful beaches lie to the west and downtown San Diego and Glorietta Bay lie to the east. The Silver Strand ends in Imperial Beach, where it re-connects with the mainland, a mere five miles from the Mexican border.
The upscale City of Coronado is home to 26,000 residents but attracts many visitors each year. Coronado boasts flat sandy beaches, stately homes, boutiques, restaurtants and is a haven for bike riding, walking, kite flying, and picnicking.
Coronado is easily accessible to visitors by boarding the ferry from downtown San Diego. A short ferry ride will let patrons out at the Ferry Landing and ferries run from sunrise until sunset, and are inexpensive. While awaiting the ferry, enjoy the quaint square at the Ferry Landing by browsing the local shops. The Ferry Landing is a great blend of souvenir shops, ice cream parlors, ocean front restaurants and of course, the spectacular views.
